I got this great email from my friend Judy. It was a great reminder:
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!
The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And, I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so..... "Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't."
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Tribal Thoughts
Yesterday my sweet friend, Allysun, sent me an article along with a very thoughtful email. I really miss her and it made me miss her more. Reading this article made me daydream along with her for the described type of shared lifestyle and balance. This kind of bond is something that is hard to come by within the same town or neighborhood.
Testimony in Photos
Deborah emailed this link to me. Just what I needed first thing in the morning. This is so beautiful!
"For many years the Mesa Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mesa, Arizona) has had exhibits on the temple grounds during the Easter season. This year, there was also a 'Reflections of Christ' photography exhibit in the Mesa Temple Visitor's Center. The photographer was given permission to photograph pageant cast members for the exhibit. They traveled to various locations in Arizona that the photographer thought looked like the places in Israel where the events took place and recreated the scenes.
"The photographer worked with a few others to put together a 5-minute slide show which includes every image from the exhibit and set it to the hymn ' Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.'
"Just remember when you're watching the video that these are photographs -- they aren't paintings . . . incredible! Remember to maximize the video. You can expand the screen to fill the screen by clicking the icon in the lower right (left of the volume control)."

All is well
Life is really good lately. Ian is working his tail off, but he's still calm and very easy to get along with. I think I'd have to attribute it to his new diet and weight loss. I think he feels more confident and happy with himself. I think getting off the caffeine it he best thing he's done for himself. I am so proud of him!
Liam is a booger 2 year old a lot of times, but he's been a fun guy to hang out with too. I've really enjoyed this summer with him. We've had a lot of great activities to participate in as a family and just the two of us.
I hope I never forget the summer of 2008. It's been wonderful.

I created this storyboard on Shutterfly.com for my mother in law who loved the shoe series of photos. I loved it too and wished I could have included all 5 shots.
